HPL Alliance –After 2 games the HPL Alliance look like the team to beat. They are at the top of there pool. Their depth of players is unmatched by any other team. Logan Stankoven, Trevor Wong and Kobe Verbicky lead the charge on this team offensively. Stankoven continues to be one of the top players in the west, maybe the country as his compete level is unbelievable. The HPL defensive core is as good as they come with the likes of Ethan Samson and Oliver Gabrielson having strong outings. The other Dmen here are just as equal and playing just as well.
Detroit Little Caesars – A spirited game 1 for the Detroit team against the Sask Sting, which seen a few players kicked out of the game, saw DLC capitalize on their power play. Griffin Jurecki had a strong outing and James Stefan had a decent outing with a couple goals. Niklas Miller also had a strong outing with 3 points in the game. Their last game against the HPL Alliance will be a good test. There is a good chance DLC finishes 2nd in this pool.
Sask Sting – The sting are lead by their defense. Lead by rated players Prosofsky, Schneider and Irvine on the back end, they are tough to beat. In the 2 games so far , the Stings physical play is very hard to match which has made the opposition forwards job more difficult to gain zone entrance. In game one they easily handled the Calgary team and had a strong outing in net by Jaxon Taupert who continues to be one of the best tenders in the spring 2017 season. Emotions took over in game 2 for the Sting as they played DLC and ended up paying for it in with penalties. A rematch of these 2 teams would be nice.
Team Manitoba – after 2 games Team Manitoba leads their pool with 2 wins. In their first game they held on to win 7-6 but they dominated play for most of the game. Mike Sveinson had a strong first game along with the duo of Eric Alarie and Skyler Bruce. This pairing is having a very strong tournament to date. In game 2 , Eric Alarie and Skyler bruce once again were a force to reckon with as they supplied the bulk of the offense for Team Mb in an 8-2 win. Alarie’s value will continue to rise as time goes on. Tyler Brennan one of the top rated goalies had a strong outing as well. On defence the team has been lead by Hudson Thornton and Brandt Clarke both of whom are having a strong weekend. A game 4 matchup with the Stars elite will test them defensively.
Stars Elite – along with the HPL team, this is another one of the top teams around. Cole Sillinger has lead the team and has a strong opening game with a hat trick. 2004 Matthew Savoie has been very good as well and very hard to contain. Sean Tschirgel continues to be a force with his size and strength and has also had a nice start to the weekend. Marc Lajoie on defense has stood out, and has been rock solid for the Stars. This team is very deep and very skilled, so do not be surprised to see them in the final on Sunday.
