Another major spring tournament is taking place in Kelowna, BC featuring top 2004 born prospects. The Western Canadian Classic tournament has 10 teams with players for the age group.
The CW Quest have opened up to a 2-0-0 record and high ranked Saskatchewan prospect Kyren Gronick from Regina has put up 5-2-7 thus far. Jaydon Jessiman had 2-1-3 and played with Swift Current. Carter Dereniwsky (Yorkton) and Jakin Lawrence (West Central) each have 2 goals in 2 games. Most of the CW Quest players are top Saskatchewan ranked prospects.
The Prairie Lightning also feature some of Saskatchewan’s top 04’s and Nolan Flamand from Saskatoon is leading the way with 3-1-4 after his first game and Riley Heidt an 05 born from Saskatoon has 2-2-4. This team also has elite 05 born Kalen Lind and Scott Niedermayer’s son Jackson and a few top players from Vancouver Island like Ryan and Jason Spizawka and Braydon Boehm. Ethan Chadwick, a high ranked Saskatchewan goalie stopped 32/33 shots.
The Winterhawks, who feature many top Alberta 04’s are 1-0-1 and have scored 10 goals. Rhett Melnyk of Fort Saskatchewan has 3-1-4 and high ranked Fort Saskatchewan F – Jordan Gustafson with 2-2-4. Other top prospects to watch from the Winterhawks are: D – CJ Symanczyk (Calgary), Ben Hemmerling (Sherwood Park) and high ranked G – Justen Maric (Edmonton) who is off to a great start!
The Red Deer Rustlers are off to a 0-2-0 start but high ranked prospect Ty Daneault and Nate Danielson each have 2-1-3 of the 4 goals the team has scored and Tyler MacKenzie who also made our initial rankings has 3 assists.
The 04 Yotes out of Calgary lost 4-2 but top 5 overall ranked Bowden Singleton scored a goal.
Selects Hockey BC got off to a 1-0-0 start and high ranked Thomas Tien had 2-1-3. Tien played with Seafair this past season. Merik Erickson stopped 19/20 shots and he played with Delta in 16/17.
Koehn Zimmer (Whitecourt) scored 2 goals in 2 games today for the Okanagan Lakers. Zimmer is a highly regarded Alberta Prospect. Jarrod Feist (Vernon) had 1-1-2 today.
The Vancouver Selects Blue are 1-1-0 and have scored 10 goals in 2 games. Ben Thornton (Abbotsford) had a big day with 2-3-5 and Braden Schuurman (Abbotsford) 2-2-4. Both Thornton and Schuurman are highly regarded BC 04’s. Brandon Whynott (Langley) also had a big day with 1-3-4. The Selects Blue feature many top BC lower mainland players primarily from provincial champion Abbotsford.
