Winnipeg and Swift Current Tournaments This Weekend

The 1st annual Winnipeg Jets Classic AAA Tournament will take place from November 23-26, 2017 at the MTS Bell Iceplex.  A couple top teams from the AMBHL will take part as the St. Albert Sabres and Edmonton CAC will attend.  Joining them will be all four Winnipeg teams, the Monarchs, Hawks, Warriors and Sharks as well as the Southwest Cougars and the Minot Wolves from south of the border.

The Swift Current Bantam Tournament will take place from November 24-26 and will feature 12 teams from five different leagues and three provinces – Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  Saskatchewan will have 8 teams, Alberta 3 teams and Manitoba will have 1 team.  Here is a bit on each team.  We should have a full preview just before the tournament takes place.

Saskatchewan Teams

Swift Current Broncos (13-1-0 79GF-40GA) – 9 players averaging better than a PPG. Several top Saskatchewan prospects at forward, defense and goaltending.  Favorite to win their home tournament.

Saskatoon Maniacs (6-6-0 42GF-45GA) – Alex Bernauer and D – Hunter Larocque lead the team and James Venne has been good in goal.

Regina Monarchs (7-5-0 75GF-49GA) – Blake Swetlikoff (16-20-36) and Davis Fry (18-18-36) lead the team and Jackson Smith (11-6-17).  Logan Hammett is a big dman to watch.

Martensville Marauders (8-5-2 77GF-58GA) – 05’s Riley Heidt (14-14-28) and Brayden Yager (15-13-28) have led the team. Connor Yager 03 born and Jhett Larson have had big seasons as well so far.

Weyburn Red Wings (2-11-1 36GF-82GA) – Rylan Erb (11-5-16) leads the team.

West Central Wheat Kings (11-1-1 73GF-26GA) – Strong team who should be a favorite led by 04 Jakin Lawrence with 12-4-16. Logan Linklater leads the team in scoring (9-14-23) and tied is D – Eric Robbie (6-12-18).  Good depth.  Noah Martens has a 1.97 GAA.

Estevan Bruins (5-7-2 41GF-58GA) – Scoring leader has 12 points in 14 games – Turner McMillan.  Zane Winter is a good goalie who will be heavily relied upon.

Regina Aces (3-7-1 (32GF-45GA) – Brendan Holba has 9 goals in 11 games to lead.  Kyren Gronick is a good 04 to watch.  Austin McLean has over a PPG as well.

Alberta Teams

MLAC United Cycle AA (3-7-2 53GF-63GA) -Hayden Stocks leads the team with 13-10-23 in 12 GP.  He is the lone AA AP player for MLAC in the AMBHL.  Emeric Lepine has been good in goal.

Red Deer AA Chiefs (3-8-1 33GF-49GA) – Ivan Filippov (6-4-10) and Andrew Wallace (6-6-12) lead the team. Brett Lower has been good in goal.  2004 born Nolan Larson is the lone AP player for the AMBHL Chiefs.  He has 6-3-9 in 12 games.

Calgary NWCAA Bronks (4-7-2 44GF-52GA) – Guillarmo Salazar leads the Bronks in scoring with 12-11-23 to go with 38 PIMS in 12GP. Matt Corbet and Sebastian Pankiw have 8 and 5 goals respectively.

Manitoba Team

Winnipeg Hawks (0-8-1 14GF-39GA)  – Several players have 4 points in 9 games for the 04 born first year bantam team.
